How Teens Should Take Care of Their Smile

Posted .

As a teen, it’s normal to experiment with activities, eat sugary foods, and mess around. But oftentimes, these activities can severely harm the smile, which is why we encourage you to take care of your smile as much as possible. We recommend doing so by doing the following things:

· Keep up on oral hygiene: It is vital that you brush your teeth every morning and every night, floss your smile at least once a day, and rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily. Doing these tasks will keep the tooth decay away and it will also help you have a beautiful, clean smile throughout the day.

· Take care of your smile: The best ways to take care of your smile are to refrain from smoking, avoid eating sugary and starchy foods, wear a mouthguard while engaging in contact sports, and keep from piercing any part of your mouth.

· Visit your dentist: Go to your general dentist every six months for a routine dental cleaning and exam. These appointments will help you have the best oral health because they successfully prevent many dental issues that could destroy your smile.

· Take care of your braces: If you have braces, it’s very important that you take care of them. Stick to the orthodontic diet and stay away from habits that can break your appliance.

If you need help completing any of these tasks, please feel free to call Pierson & Saunders Orthodontics today at 210-695-1116. We care for you and your oral health, and we are more than happy to help you in any way we can. We look forward to your call!
