If you aren’t familiar with us, let us introduce ourselves. We are Pierson Orthodontics and we LOVE to give people, “Something to Smile About.” Giving our patients beautiful smiles is our day job, but helping others endure life with a smile is our objective. Our years are full of projects where we give back to our community and a few communities across the sea.
Last year we were granted the privilege of finalizing homes for the Habitat for Humanity. As a staff, we spent all day long painting and caulking homes that were soon to be presented to a new family in need. It was a hot day and let’s just say our Pierson Orthodontics shirts had a few more designs on them when we left. Some of us learned new skills that would make our daddies proud, some found out they were master painters, some found out, maybe, this sort of craft wasn’t our forte, but we enjoyed the camaraderie.
Throughout the year, we hold booths and attend career days at our local elementary schools. We always seem to find a few children there that we know very well. The events either give our schools funds that are used to provide what the students need or give them the information that will help direct them in the right way for their future.
We are affiliated with a nonprofit organization called Ragan’s HOPE, which helps other parents endure the impact of having a child with a catastrophic illness. In July, we start our backpack drive where we collect school supply donations that fill a backpack for local kids and their siblings impacted by an illness.
October is when we focus on our troops overseas and the Ronald McDonald House. For local schools that accept the challenge, we place a Candy Buy Back box labeled with increments of potential funds they can earn. We provide fliers sent home to the parents, letting them know that we want their candy! After Halloween, the kids bring their candy, which we are sure they are reluctant to give away, and fill the box. They can earn up to $500 for their school, they do a very good job trying to get there, and some succeed! The thousands of pounds of candy is taken to USO downtown where they scavenge through it all for quality and mail it to our troops who miss Halloween and just candy in general. As Candy Buy Back is proceeding our Pumpkin Contest coincides with it. We invite specialist and dental offices in our area to decorate a pumpkin. The pumpkins are posted to our Facebook and they are voted for there at in our office. The winning office wins a staff lunch but the most rewarding thing about the contest is that we take all the pumpkins to the Ronald McDonald homes to enjoy. The kids have overflowing joy when they see all of the pumpkins which usually are decorated with their favorite movies in mind.
November brings the hint of cold weather, and it’s just a hint here in Texas. We provide our patients with the opportunity to purchase our beanies that we purchased from Monique’s Mother-In-Law to be donated to the Cancer division at the Children’s Hospital. They have their name attached to them with a little prayer and the patients at the hospital get to choose which one would keep their heads warm when hair isn’t there to do so.
Our year is always wrapped up with our Angel Tree. We place the tree full of ornaments with the wishes of our local sick children and their siblings. Not only our patients, but anyone, can adopt a child to provide what they needed or wanted for the holiday season. We also have a few for the parents, such as gas cards and gift cards for groceries. We deliver these gifts, wrapped to our, Ragan’s HOPE families and the joy on the faces of the children is a Christmas Gift to us.
Our hope is to bring someone “Something to Smile About.” You never know who may need it most and we are here to find them. So, we are Pierson Orthodontics, we are here to #LIGHTtheWORLD, will you join us?
